My name is Toby van Pooss, and I have been coaching adventure sports for the last 25 years, with a specialization in mountain sports such as skiing, climbing, and whitewater kayaking. Over the years, my passion for adventure sports has taken me all over the world, and inevitably, during my time off, I started Scuba Diving. The underwater world captured my heart and imagination, and ten years ago, I went full-time as a Scuba instructor. Initially, I worked as a dive guide and then settled in Malta, where I established my own Dive Center. Later on, I helped establish other dive centers and now run my bespoke high-end coaching and guiding business.

I am primarily an instructor trainer and examiner for RAID, which is a rapidly growing scuba diving training organization. RAID is known for its high standards, safety protocols, and commitment to environmentally friendly diving practices. As an experienced RAID instructor trainer and examiner, I am passionate about helping divers achieve their goals and develop the required skill sets to complete dives safely and enjoyably.

My approach to training divers is centered around the individual diver, their skills, and their goals. I firmly believe that diving should be a relaxed and enjoyable experience, and as such, I work at a steady pace with no more than three divers on a course, unless requested otherwise. This approach ensures that each diver receives personalized attention and can master the skills at their own pace, without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

My focus is on building confidence, developing the necessary skills, and ensuring that each diver is equipped with the knowledge and experience required to complete their dives safely. Whether it’s a recreational or technical diving course, I take the time to ensure that each diver is comfortable with the equipment, the diving environment, and the safety procedures before moving on to more advanced skills.

As a RAID instructor trainer and examiner, I take my role seriously, and I am committed to upholding the high standards set by the organization. I am constantly learning and updating my skills, attending workshops, and staying up to date with the latest diving techniques and equipment. This ensures that I am equipped with the knowledge and experience required to deliver the best possible training to each diver.

In addition to my work as a RAID instructor trainer and examiner, I am also passionate about environmental conservation and ensuring that diving practices are sustainable and environmentally friendly. I encourage all divers to be responsible and environmentally conscious, and I incorporate these values into my training programs.
